As a "Human Empowerment Company", the medical technology company Ottobock wants to enable people with disabilities to lead an independent life. An amputation is a defining event in a person's life and affects them significantly – both physically and mentally. Time after time they feel left alone with their questions and issues. However, there is often no direct contact with other amputees. For this reason, Ottobock developed the platform together with amputees and people with limb difference in 2021 and created the first international online community for amputees.
Paralympic gold medalist Heinrich Popow played a key role in the development: "Networking, sharing the same challenges and motivating each other helps us to overcome the hurdles of our disabilities. According to the motto "Move as one" from which the name Movao derives. Movao aims to provide that sense of empowerment to members and help them achieve their dreams and ideas." Almost 600 members worldwide use the platform in the regions of North America, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Belgium. Movao is now available at https://movao.community or to download as an app.
